Description: Butheina Hamdah is a PhD student in American Studies at the George Washington University, where she also received a Columbian Distinguished Fellowship. Her intellectual interests lie in Muslim communal and organizational life and the impact of American political, sociocultural, and religious arrangements on Muslim societies. Her research interests were influenced not only by her experiences living in Turkey, Bahrain, Palestine, and Jordan but also by her time working in the American Muslim institutional space in various capacities. She aspires to hold joint positions within academia and a research institute concerned with Muslim issues. She received her MAs in political science (2017) and sociology (2021) as well as her BA in political science with honors (2012) from the University of Toledo in Ohio.
