Description: Fareed Abdullah is a U.S. diplomat and a current Masters of International Affairs student at the School of International and Political Affairs at Columbia University. Fareed spent years working with the U.S. Department of State in various countries worldwide, focusing on public diplomacy and political affairs. Fareed is using his time at Columbia University to think and write about his experience as a practitioner of foreign affairs and to gain a more thorough understanding of how the theories of international relations affect not only the bilateral and multilateral approaches to diplomacy but also the human-to-human connection that is often neglected at the higher levels. Fareed began working with the Department of State in 2007 and joined the Foreign Service in 2009. Fareed has served as a political and public affairs officer in several countries including Iraq, Senegal, and China, and at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in New York.
