Description: Ahmed Mitiche holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Indianapolis in Sociology/Social Research and Philosophy/Ethics, and will begin his MA in Middle Eastern and North African Studies at the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor in the fall. He was awarded a Fulbright Research Grant to Morocco last year, where he conducted field work with activists from two contemporary social movements (Mouvement du 20 Février and Hirak al-Rif) and presented a critique of the racialized security-centric frameworks often used to analyse these movements. Ahmed is also an activist and community organizer. He is a founder of local non-profit, FOCUS Initiatives, that is working to develop transitional housing and re-entry programming for formerly incarcerated persons in Indiana. He is also organizing against CVE funding in Indianapolis as part of the national Communities Against Islamophobia initiative.
