Description: Alaa (Amy) Mostafa is pursuing a masters degree in New Media at UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism. She is a graduate of UCB where she received a BA in English and minored in Public Policy. She was a radio news intern for KQED Public Radio, reporting on politics and government within the Bay Area with a focus on the city of Berkeley. Alaa grew up in Cairo, Egypt and Santa Ana, CA. Those places inform her endeavors as a reporter for Oakland North and a producer for KALX today. Alaa’s journalistic training focuses on data and audio. She aims to continue utilizing the mediums to examine issues affecting SWANA diasporic communities and build political and financial literacy through more accessible multimedia content.
